The UK Local Government Alliance for International Development provides a single voice for the UK local government sector on international development issues.
The UK Local Government Alliance for International Development brings together five local government bodies in the UK, who are committed to increase understanding of the role of local government in reducing poverty internationally.
Our aims:
1. to raise awareness within UK councils of global poverty issues including:
- how UK government works to reduce global poverty via the Department for International Development - what local councils can do to contribute to poverty reduction
2. to increase understanding about how local government can help to reduce global poverty by:
- ensuring that the role of the local government sector is better defined and understood - working to develop & enhance the role of the local government sector in international development
3. to increase the capacity of UK local councils to get involved:
- enhancing the skills-base within local councils for working internationally - increasing the sharing of learning & experiences from working internationally
