In September 2000, world leaders came together at the United Nations for the Millennium Summit.At the Summit they committed to fight together against poverty hunger, gender inequality, environmental degradation, and HIV/AIDS, while improving access to education, health care and clean water, all by 2015. These commitments are encompassed in the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Up to date information on the Millennium Development Goals can be found at the Millennium Campaign website.
