The Big Lottery Fund’s new International Communities programme is now open for applications. The International Communities programme is the Big Lottery Fund’s way of helping disadvantaged communities overseas. International Communities will run from 2010-2015 and has a budget of £80million.
The programme is open to UK non-governmental organisations working with overseas partners in Africa, Asia (including the Pacific and Central Asian countries, the Middle East, Central and South America and parts of Eastern Europe. Local authorities can be a partner organisation, but the lead partner must be a UK NGO. Grants will be available for up to five years and will range from £50,000 to £500,000. The International Communities programme will fund projects that focus on tackling the causes of poverty and deprivation and bring about a long-term difference to the lives of the most disadvantaged people in the world. The project should focus on achieving at least one of the targets below:
There will be strong competition for the funding. The Big Lottery Fund have held briefing sessions to provide more information on the application process. The programme is open for applications on a rolling basis until March 2014. Applications should highlight: project need with evidence of the individual needs of beneficiaries
project outcomes - clear statements of intent on what the project should achieve
indicators and milestones with SMART targets
involvement of beneficiaries in the design, planning and implementation of the project
working in partnership - your overseas partner should be independent with their own management committee, governing documents and accounts. A close working relationship between the UK organisation and overseas partner is key to project achievement.
Monitoring & evaluation - focussing on delivery to schedule, achievement of intended results and detailed evaluation plans.
sustainability - how will benefits be achieved beyond the life of the project?
exit strategy - building caapcity and good practice at a local level.
In addition to the grant funding available.
