Global Community Links: free workshops in October PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 August 2010 13:06

If you have a link with an overseas community, find out how DFID's Global Community Links programme could help you develop this connection by attending one of the free workshops being held throughout the UK in October.

Global Community Links is pleased to announce that they have four Inspiration Activation workshops coming up in October. The workshops are taking place regionally so you can choose the most convenient one for you. All workshops are timed to allow several weeks before the next Grants deadline on 1st November:

Saturday 2nd October           London

Saturday 9th October           Reading

Saturday 16th October          Bristol

Saturday 16th October          Edinburgh

Inspiration Activation workshops run from 10am-4.30pm and are a great opportunity to develop ideas about how you can increase the impact of your Link in the UK and overseas, and plan how you can make the best use of an Action Grant.

In a day of fun, interactive group activities and discussion, you will develop your ideas about how you can involve your wider community, help other people learn more about the realities of life in your Link community overseas and build support for international development in the UK.

The workshop will give you an opportunity to:-
• network with people with similar interests in order to share your achievements, find out what others are doing, and help each other find solutions to challenges
• reflect on the similarities and differences between the UK and your link country, and how you could increase awareness and challenge misconceptions
• learn more about some of the key global issues that face the world, particularly poorer countries
• think about how Global Learning Activities could help your Link, and developing creative ideas to get people involved
• find out more about how to successfully apply for an Action grant, including key criteria and how to submit a successful application.

Places are limited so you’re advised to register early with one person only from your Community Group. If places become available, we will let you know so you an invite a colleague.

There are more workshops planned for different locations in November and December, so keep watching the website for details. http://www.dfid.gov.uk/communitylinks
