The international linking organisation, BUILD, has just started a project focussing on ‘Building on UK Diapora International Partnerships’ thanks to funding from the John Paul Getty Trust. The project will explore with a wide range of diaspora groups how the opportunities for global partnerships between UK and overseas communities might be exploited for the benefit of all involved.

BUILD are currently developing a database of diaspora groups in the UK. If you are a member of a group or have any details of diaspora groups that are based in the UK with links back to their country of origin, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The purpose of the project will be to encourage peace, prosperity and justice by:

  • bringing the global dimension into the lives of citizens in the UK, through the development of global partnerships thus giving them an understanding of the complex world in which we live
  • developing greater social cohesion within communities in UK
  • addressing issues of exclusion and lack of identity amongst minority ethnic groups in UK
  • building on the self-confidence and personal and professional development of those involved
  • providing opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers to “tell their stories” thereby bringing greater tolerance and understanding within British Society
  • building support for development as part of the UK Government’s International Development agenda.
