The LGA’s European and International Unit is widening its international project and programme activities.

Democratisation, decentralisation and local government capacity building projects will be in the heart of our work in the countries of Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the developing world . We would like to invite members and officers from across the local government sector to work with us on these projects.

We are looking to identify colleagues from the LG Group and from local councils who have the enthusiasm and expertise to work with us on a short or long term basis to deliver a range of projects in a variety of countries.  We would also welcome interest from recently retired senior local government officers.

The latest project opportunity is a € 5m EU funded project in Kosovo developing the capacity of the local government sector.  This project is a result of the LGA’s cooperation with NI-CO (the Northern Irish public sector consultancy company).

For the Kosovo project we are looking for well established expertise in urban planning and infrastructure, improving efficiency and performance, financial management, European integration and funds management, citizens’ participation and environmental issues.
