Development aid in 2009 : continuing rise in the UK PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 April 2010 10:23

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published new statistics on development aid for 2009. The UK was one of the largest donors in terms of volume (USD 11.7 billion) as well as representing one of the largest percentage increases in net ODA (+14.6%) last year.

This is part of a general growth in development assistance from OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) members. Despite financial pressures faced by governments, the total net official development assistance (ODA) increased 0.7% that is 0.31% of DAC members' gross national incomes.

Whilst recognising this progress, the OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria highlighted that efforts still have to be made to reach the Millenium Development Goals in 2015.
