Technical cooperation

Local authorities in development EU programme - In country operations.

Each thematic EU programme is implemented through Annual Action Programmes (AAPs) based on the general indications provided by the Thematic Strategy Paper and Multi-Annual Indicative Programme 2007-2010. More info here

  • UN Global Environment Facility (GEF) small grants programme
  • UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) allows emission-reduction (or removal) projects in developing countries to earn certified emission reduction (CER) credits, each equivalent to one tonne of CO2. These CERs can be traded and sold, and used by industrialized countries to a meet a part of their emission reduction targets under the Kyoto Protocol. Local government related initiatives that have qualified for CDM certification and trading have typically included Municipal Waste Landfill energy projects. To be considered for registration a project must first be considered by the designated national authority i.e. The authority in the country where your project is located.

Professional Fellowships Funding Programme Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for fellowship placements for professionals from different sectors, based in Commonwealth countries. Annual funding rounds.

Foundations

Open Society Institute George Soros’ foundation mainly gives grants to civil society actors but potential partnership projects in various Geographical and Thematic areas – governance and accountability, health, Education and youth, media and arts, justice

Ford Foundation provide grants based on: ‘reducing poverty and injustice; promoting democratic values; and advancing human knowledge, creativity and achievement”

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is a private, grantmaking foundation based in Flint, Michigan. The Foundation funds various international areas, principally: Civil Society, Environment

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation provide grants focussing on Global Development and health.

The Shell Foundation has six programme areas that target the three pillars of Sustainability: ‘Aspire’ for SMEs; ‘Breathing space’ – indoor air quality; ‘Trading up’ – developing country producers; Embarq – sustainable transport solutions; ‘Excelerate – bringing energy to the poor.

The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation concentrates on nature conservation projects in developing countries undertaken by small to medium-sized organisations.

The Wallace Global Fund supports initiatives related to environmental resource depletion and system collapse, corporate abuses and the concentration of corporate power, planetary carrying capacity, sustainable human population, women’s human rights, with an emphasis on ending female genital mutilation, civic engagement, civil liberties, equal justice, independent media, and media policy.

The Maypole Fund welcomes applications from women for projects and activities that meet the following aims: Peace initiatives, disarmament and action against the arms trade; Anti-militarism and action against male violence; Nuclear issues; Environmental issues; The promotion of women’s social and political autonomy throughout the world; International, national and/or regional networking between women for the above purposes.
