Before you start exploring the country and regional specific programmes available, it is worth making sure that you understand the different terminology (see our glossary for more).

Country Assistance Strategies (CAS) are used by the World Bank to define the priorities for its donor assistance programme in a particular country.

Country Strategy Papers are used by the European Commission’s Aid agency to define its priorities for assisting a particular country.

Poverty Reduction Strategies (PRS) are developed with World Bank assistance to define a country’s national development plan through which donors can allocate aid.

     

Country programmes

Country offices of donors generally provide funding for specific actions in those countries. It is also good to stay in touch with the High Commission if you are working in a country. Sometimes the High Commission will have funds to support smaller one-off activities.

World Bank country programmes

European Commission delegations and country strategy papers

Regional programmes

The European Commission has regional strategy papers to guide its regional activities. It provides external aid through geographic programmes in the following zones:

>Africa, Caribbean and Pacific

>Asia

>Latin America

>Middle East

>Neighbourhood and Russia
