To facilitate project design and management, DFID provides guidance on its logical framework. The checklist on pages 32-35 is particularly useful and gives simple explanations of all the sections required in the logical framework.

Technical cooperation 

Commonwealth Local Government Good Practice Scheme (managed by CLGF)

  • type of grants : partnerships aiming at improving services delivery through sharing of good practices;
  • financing terms : £40,000;
  • application / eligibility : UK council that set up an overseas partnership.

DFID country offices

  • types of grants / contracts : partnerships that deliver poverty reduction / Millennium Development Goals and local development
  • financing terms : variable according to project / country
  • application / eligibility : requires southern partner to jointly submit proposal – ideally with regional and / or national support. Proposals must show relevance to national development plan / poverty reduction strategy priorities

Development awareness in community

Development Awareness Fund Mini-Grants Scheme

  • type of grants : development education work in the UK;
  • financing terms : minimum £1,000 – maximum £10,000 per year for up to 3 years;
  • application / eligibility : Guidelines 2010/2011 are being considered and will be published soon. Organisations or networks eligible. 1-3 year projects.

Community Linking Scheme (managed by British Council)  

This programme aims to increase understanding in the UK of global issues through links between community groups in the UK and developing countries.

Development education in schools

Global Schools Partnerships

  • type of grants: create international relationships through visits between UK schools and Southern schools;
  • financing terms: max. £6.300 for travel expenses, £750 can be requested for communication;
  • application / eligibility: available to local authorities that represent a group of schools.
